The 6205 is a light-series deep groove ball bearing with a 25 mm bore, a 52 mm outside diameter and a width of 15 mm. It is a standard choice for the drive end of small and medium electric motors, and for pumps, gearboxes, compressors and conveyor drives.
The bore code 05 multiplied by 5 gives the 25 mm bore. Because it is so widely used, the 6205 is the size we use to compare how brands write their part numbers: the same sealed, C3-clearance bearing is 6205-2RSH/C3 from SKF, 6205-2RSR-C3 from FAG and 6205DDUC3 from NSK.
On a 25 mm shaft you may also meet the 6005 (25 × 47 × 12 mm), the heavier 6305 (25 × 62 × 17 mm) and the thin-section 6905 (25 × 42 × 9 mm). Measure the outside diameter and width as well as the bore before you order. When servicing a motor, check both of its bearings: the drive end and the non-drive end are often different sizes.

6205 variants
Every 6205 has the same outside dimensions. What changes is how it is sealed, its internal clearance and its material:
- 6205 (open): no shields or seals. For gearboxes and machines where oil or grease reaches the bearing.
- 6205 ZZ / 2Z: metal shields on both sides, greased for life. For clean, fast-running motors and fans.
- 6205 2RS: rubber seals on both sides (DDU at NSK, LLU at NTN). Better against dust and moisture.
- 6205 C3: internal clearance greater than normal, combined with any of the above (e.g. 6205-2RS-C3). The usual choice for electric motors.
- S6205 / SS6205: stainless steel for wet or corrosive conditions, usually marked with an S or SS prefix (SKF uses W). Supplied on request.
