For combined radial and axial loads: pumps, compressors, gearboxes and spindles.
Angular contact ball bearings have raceways offset so the load passes through the balls at an angle. That lets them carry heavy axial load in one direction together with radial load. Single-row bearings (72, 73 series) are usually fitted in pairs. Double-row bearings (32, 33 series) take axial load in both directions in one unit.
