The 6204 is a light-series deep groove ball bearing with a 20 mm bore, a 47 mm outside diameter and a width of 14 mm. It is probably the single most requested bearing at our counter, used in electric motors, pumps, conveyor rollers and agricultural machines across India.
It is also the first size where the simple bore rule works: the last two digits, 04, multiplied by 5 give the 20 mm bore. That makes the 6204 the classic example for learning to read bearing numbers. A full designation such as 6204-2RS-C3 means a 6204 with rubber seals on both sides and C3 clearance.
Sharing the same 20 mm bore are the 6004 (20 × 42 × 12 mm), the heavier 6304 (20 × 52 × 15 mm) and the thin-section 6904 (20 × 37 × 9 mm). They all fit a 20 mm shaft, but each needs a different housing.

6204 variants
Every 6204 has the same outside dimensions. What changes is how it is sealed, its internal clearance and its material:
- 6204 (open): no shields or seals. For gearboxes and machines where oil or grease reaches the bearing.
- 6204 ZZ / 2Z: metal shields on both sides, greased for life. For clean, fast-running motors and fans.
- 6204 2RS: rubber seals on both sides (DDU at NSK, LLU at NTN). Better against dust and moisture.
- 6204 C3: internal clearance greater than normal, combined with any of the above (e.g. 6204-2RS-C3). The usual choice for electric motors.
- S6204 / SS6204: stainless steel for wet or corrosive conditions, usually marked with an S or SS prefix (SKF uses W). Supplied on request.
