How to read NSK part numbers
NSK writes its part numbers without spaces or hyphens: the basic number, then the seal code, then the clearance. A sealed 6204 with NSK’s motor clearance is written 6204DDUCM, and a shielded C3 6205 6205ZZC3. NSK also uses its own seal codes, DDU and VV, rather than the 2RS seen on other brands.
6204DDUCM
- 6204: deep groove ball bearing (6), light series (2), 20 mm bore (04 × 5). Size 20 × 47 × 14 mm.
- DDU: NSK rubber contact seals on both sides.
- CM: NSK’s radial clearance specified for electric-motor bearings, for quiet running.
The NSK codes you will see most often:
| Code | Meaning |
|---|---|
ZZ | Metal shields on both sides |
DDU | Rubber contact seals on both sides |
VV | Non-contact rubber seals on both sides (lower friction) |
C3 | Internal clearance greater than normal |
CM | Clearance specified for electric motors |
EA | High-load design (spherical roller bearings) |
E4 | Lubrication groove and holes in the outer ring |
K | Tapered bore (1:12) for an adapter sleeve |
J | Pressed steel cage (tapered roller bearings) |
CM or C3? Both are clearances used in electric motors. CM is NSK’s own motor clearance range, chosen for quiet running. If the old bearing says CM, replace it with CM where possible, or ask us before substituting C3.
Same bearing, other brands
Every maker writes the same bearing differently. Here is a sealed 6205 with C3 clearance (25 × 52 × 15 mm) in each brand’s own style, so you can match a NSK part number to its equivalent in another brand, or the other way round. Always check the full suffix before swapping brands.
| Brand | Sealed 6205, C3 clearance | Seal code |
|---|---|---|
| SKF | 6205-2RSH/C3 |
2RSH |
| FAG | 6205-2RSR-C3 |
2RSR |
| NSK | 6205DDUC3 |

| NTN | 6205LLUC3 |

How to spot a fake NSK bearing
NSK motor bearings are popular, and therefore copied. Because NSK uses distinctive codes, the part number itself is often the quickest giveaway:
- Check the seal code. NSK uses DDU (contact seals) and VV (non-contact seals). A box marked NSK 6205-2RS uses another maker’s suffix and should be questioned.
- Check the number’s style. Genuine NSK numbers run together without hyphens or spaces, such as 6204DDUCM. Odd spacing or punctuation is a warning sign.
- Match the bearing to the label. The designation on the ring should match the box exactly.
- Look at the markings and seals. Genuine markings are sharp and even, and seals sit flush and evenly all round.
- Question the price, and if in doubt, ask. Prices far below the market rate are a warning sign. If you have doubts about bearings you already hold, bring them in and we will give you an honest opinion.

Where NSK bearings are used
NSK deep groove ball bearings, especially DDU and CM versions, are widely used in electric motors, pumps, fans and household appliances. NSK miniature bearings suit small motors and instruments, NSK super-precision angular contact bearings machine-tool spindles, and NSK spherical roller bearings (EAE4) conveyors, crushers and vibrating screens. Send us the old bearing’s full number and we will match it.

Questions
NSK bearings: frequently asked
What does CM mean on an NSK bearing?
CM is NSK’s radial clearance specified for electric-motor bearings, chosen for quiet running. Replace a CM bearing with CM where possible, or ask us before substituting C3.
What is the difference between NSK DDU and VV?
DDU bearings have rubber contact seals, which protect best against dust and moisture. VV bearings have non-contact seals, which run with less friction. Both are sealed on both sides.
What is the NSK equivalent of a 6205-2RS bearing?
The NSK equivalent is 6205DDU: 25 × 52 × 15 mm with rubber contact seals on both sides. Add C3 or CM if your application needs a particular clearance.
Can you supply NSK motor bearings in bulk?
